BarCampWaterloo
Last night the second BarCampWaterloo (this time a DemoCamp variation) was held in the new Accelerator Center on the North Campus. There was a good turn out and good discussion about each of the products displayed. I presented the new Off-Campus Housing Sublet Board which I wrote to replace the old one. It has many improvements but at the same time, many limitations which are by design and out of my hands. I didn’t really get to show off the internals of the app since the discussion quickly snowballed into rants on the very limitations that are not my call. I very much appreciated the feedback and it gave me a few pieces of ammo to try to get improvements approved for future implementation.
Some of the things I’ve added to my to-do list based on the feedback:
- Google Maps API integration
- Improved search method (GET request vs POST)
- RSS feed for listings
- RSS feeds for search results (happy Jesse?)
- Slight back-end improvement that came to mind
Jesse Rogers from CPA has posted to the UWWebDev Blog and added some photos to flickr to check out. Looking forward to the next one where I will probably end up discussing something like “Accessibility for the masses” since it can be so easy.
