Trebuchet is hard to read
3I just came from reading the latest article on Beast-Blog by Mike Cherim which is about accessible accessibility. I enjoyed the article but reading it was certainly a chore. “Why?” you ask; Trebuchet, that is why. (more…)
Ban Comic Sans
2ban comic sans: putting the sans in comic sans
I saw this on reddit today and thought it would amuse a few of you as it did me. I have used Comic Sans on occasion to mimic comic book style in Photoshop and it looks great. The guys at Little Gamers also use it for their comic (9pt regular all-caps, if you were curious). The opening titles for the movie Sky High also take advantage of it, they use it drop shadowed in all-caps, such a fun movie to watch. (more…)
BarCampWaterloo
0Last night the second BarCampWaterloo (this time a DemoCamp variation) was held in the new Accelerator Center on the North Campus. There was a good turn out and good discussion about each of the products displayed. (more…)
Gravatars – Not on my site
0In my Google Reader account I have a few blogs that use the Gravatar icon linking in the comments section. Today I have finally fully decided that I will never (unless something changes) add these to my blog. (more…)
ASP.Net Regular Expressions
11The RegularExpressionValidator control is an often overlooked tool for validation. A lot of people look at the validation expression and are puzzled at how to proceed. Most settle on the RequiredFieldValidator and hand coded filtering in the submit action. I hope to compile here a list of common expressions needed for web form validation so that your job is easier. Web Apps, Future, whatever
0Well I have another strong point to add to my list (which I haven’t written down anywhere yet) of reasons why Web Applications are the best way to go for the future. You can’t trust software these days given the maliciousness of “Black Hat” developers and scammers. (more…)
Thus begins the great Mac experiment…
1Today I brought home a 17″ iMac to try out. We have a few extra at work and I figured I would see what all the hype was about. Andrew is always saying how much he loves Mac OSX and all its bells and whistles. So far I have taken some funny pictures with the Photo Booth, checked out a few sites in Safari, installed FireFox and changed a few system preferences. (more…)
Blackberry Pearl Review
0Blackberry Pearl MP3 Player Instructions ยป
So I’ve had the weekend to play around with the new Blackberry Pearl and I have to say it has been fun. There are some pretty cool features in there that I’ve never had a chance to play with before. First let me set the stage, I have only briefly used a Blackberry before (several different models though) so I don’t really know all the standard features. If I seem impressed about something that is not new to the Pearl that is why. I’ve only ever used business style cell phones before so MP3 playing and stuff seem incredibly novel to me. Ok, on to the review.
Hot New Cell Phone Porn
0Along the lines of my friend Andrew’s post about his nice new laptop I thought I would simultaneously mock him and show off my new phone. It is pretty decent but is a huge improvement over the one I’ve been carrying for a couple years. Additionally I’ve been given a Blackberry Pearl to test (play with) for the weekend. First lets take a look at the two phones.
